Eoin Morgan bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore at IPL auction

Eoin Morgan will play for the Royal Challengers in this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) after the Bangalore franchise bid $220,000 (£134,000) for the England batsman in today's auction.

The Royal Challengers beat an initial offer of $210,000 from the Chennai Super Kings for the Dublin-born all rounder. Morgan, 23, will team up with Kevin Pietersen, his England team-mate.

Graeme Swann, the off spinner, was unsold as were his England team-mates Tim Bresnan, Robert Key, Monty Panesar, Jonathan Trott, Mark Ramprakash and Anthony McGrath.

Australia's top players such as Brad Haddin and Doug Bollinger, along with other familiar names such as Daren Ganga and Shakib Al Hasan, also went unsold.

Kieron Pollard, the West Indies all-rounder, and New Zealand seamer Shane Bond attracted the greatest interest with their services going to a silent tie-breaker after four franchises met the maximum bid limit of $750,000. The four teams were then given an extra five minutes to decide how much extra they wanted to commit before they made undisclosed offers.

Pollard, who received the maximum bid from four teams, was eventually bought by the Mumbai Indians, while Bond, back in mainstream cricket after two years with the unauthorised Indian Cricket League, was sold to the Kolkata Knight Riders.
