Visas blamed as Pakistan players miss out on IPL spots
Eleven players won contracts in the draft but all 11 Pakistan players including Mohammad Aamer, Umar Gul, Umar Akmal and Afridi were unsigned.
Afridi's manager Umran Khan said: "I think the players have been wronged.
"I'd heard that franchises were advised not to bid as Pakistan players would not be issued with visas."
Eoin Morgan was the only England player to be bought at the auction. The 23-year-old batsman will join the Royal Challengers Bangalore after being sold for a fee of £134,000, while West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard and New Zealand bowler Shane Bond were the costliest players.
But only 11 out of the 66 overseas players attracted successful bids, with England's Graeme Swann among those unsold.
IPL commissioner Lalit Modi claimed all franchises were free to bid for any of the shortlisted players, but Umran claims bureaucratic concerns were a factor.
"Lalit Modi and the Indian government have a lot to answer for," he said.
"The way I see it is that, because Afridi and the other Pakistani players would have been employed by an Indian company for the IPL, the Indian government wouldn't issue a visa.
"Yet, if Shahid was to play for South Australia in the Champions League, they would issue him with a visa, as they did for Yasir Arafat when he played for Sussex in last year's Champions League.
"The Indian Premier League have been using Afridi's name and pictures to publicise the tournament and to build up the hype and he was expected to be one of the most popular players amongst the franchises.
"I think Shahid and the other Pakistani players have been wronged and mistreated here."
Afridi, who scored a match-winning 54 not out as Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets to win the World Twenty20 title at Lord's last June, admitted he was shocked not to be get a contract.
"I'm stunned by the omission," he said. "I thought I would be picked and am very surprised at the outcome of the auction."
All the players bought from the auction in Mumbai will be given a one-year contract valid until 31 December which will also cover a Champions League Twenty20 tournament later this year.
