Sreesanth suffers swine flu

India paceman Shanthakumaran Sreesanth has contracted swine flu and has been admitted to a hospital in Chandigarh for treatment.

Sreesanth, who made a comeback to international cricket after a gap of 18 months in the recently concluded Test series against Sri Lanka, was ruled out of the second Twenty20 game against Kumar Sangakkara's side today in Mohali due to what was believed to be a viral infection.

The Punjab Cricket Association revealed: "Due to persistent symptoms of cough, fever and body ache, a throat swab was sent for H1N1 (swine flu) testing. The report was found to be positive and he was immediately put on medication."

Sreesanth had already missed the first Twenty20 international against Sri Lanka in Nagpur on Wednesday due to the same illness.

The PCA added: "He will remain in the hospital for a day or two.

"He is recovering well and all his vital signs are normal."

It is still unclear if Sreesanth will miss any of the five matches in the one-day series which begins on Tuesday.
