Kumara Sangakkara calls for more Test cricket

Ahmedabad: Sri Lankan skipper Kumaar Sangakkara has supported master blaster Sachin Tendulkar's call for more Test cricket, saying that the lopsided schedule needed to be changed.

Sri Lanka has just one Test series scheduled for next year, against the West Indies at home in November.

"It's really a shame that we are being deprived of Test cricket. The young guys in our side are desperate to perform at the highest level, and that means Test cricket. They are just not getting enough of it," said Sangakkara.

The comments come as the International Cricket Council (ICC) is working on a Future Tours Program for international matches after 2012, juggling to fit in Test matches amid an array of one-day and Twenty20 tournaments.

When asked about the proposed world Test championship, Sangakkara also said there was no point in talking about it until each of the nine Test nations got to play more Tests.

"Ideally, there should be eight to 10 Tests a year for every team, that needs to be worked out first," he added.
