Rogers agrees deal to return as Derbyshire skipper

Chris Rogers has agreed a deal to return to Derbyshire as captain in 2010.

The 32-year-old Australian left-hander enjoyed a sensational 2009, scoring 1,461 first-class runs despite missing the opening three matches of the season with a visa delay, achieving an average of 73.05 throughout the campaign.

Scoring two double-centuries and passing 100 no fewer than six times in 13 first-class matches, Rogers led Derbyshire by example as they remained in the County Championship Division Two promotion race into the final match of the season.

Rogers also scored 723 runs in the limited-overs forms of the game, including a fine 111 not out in the televised NatWest Pro40 match against Leicestershire in mid-September.

Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris said: "Chris has performed exceptionally well throughout the last two campaigns and we are delighted to be welcoming him back for another season.

"Possessing a wonderful appetite for runs – illustrated in him scoring over 2,000 runs in all competitions in 2009 – and with an excellent professionalism in his game, Chris sets a fine example to the rest of the team and really has led the way as captain this year.

"From the captaincy point of view it is great to have continuity."
