South Africa win a cricket final

Cricket South Africa CEO Gerald Majola congratulated Davy Jacobs and his South African team on winning the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes.

South Africa beat surprise finalists Hong Kong in the final by two wickets, with Farhaan Behardien hitting a six off the last ball of the match with five runs required for victory.

It was South Africa's second win in this tournament in the past four years.

"All credit must go to Davy Jacobs and his merry men for winning the Hong Kong Sixes in nail-biting fashion," commented Majola, who was present at the final.

"It's wonderful to see a South African team winning an international knock-out competition by holding their nerve.

"Winning becomes a habit, and this bodes well for major tournaments in the future."

Set 98 runs to win the title for a third time, the South Africans left it late to claim the trophy as Behardien thumped Mark Wright's final ball into the stands.

The defeat was a cruel blow for a Hong Kong side which had impressed throughout the competition and who went into the final having won all six of their previous matches, including two against South Africa.

The South African squad arrives home tomorrow at 7.15am on flight SA287.
