Daniel Vettori breaks his silence on coach
New Zealand cricket captain Daniel Vettori has broken his silence on claims that senior players are trying to overthrow coach Andy Moles.Vettori insists there is not a revolt as such but stopped short of saying Moles is the right fit for a difficult job.
On Friday he told ONE Sport that Thursday night's cricket awards, at which he won three major awards, seemed irrelevant now but the recent turmoil was not an attempted coup.
"I think it's important for people to know it's not people conspiring in the background to try and get rid of someone. It's just purely about how we make the team better," says Vettori.
The Black Caps have not improved during Moles' 11 months in charge and dissatisfaction is understandable although worrying only days before the team leaves for their series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.
There have been suggestions that Vettori has been effectively the player-coach for the past six months. Does he want more influence in the team?
"I think my role is pretty full," says Vettori.
Mediation is reportedly underway to determine Moles' coaching future with an announcement expected soon.
