Mumbai to Host Cricket World Cup Final
The BCCI have announced that Mumbai are to host the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup Final. The hosting of the tournament is to be shared between India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
The last World Cup was hosted in the West Indies, and on that occasion the final was hosted in Barbados.
Australia emerged victorious that day, as they beat Sri Lanka in the final. Indeed, Australia have won the World Cup the last three times, and they reached the final in 1996, where they ironically lost to Sri Lanka.
Australia have been in good form in One Day Cricket in recent times. They beat England 6-1 in an ODI series last month, and they followed that up by retaining their Champions Trophy title in South Africa last week.
No host nation has ever won the ICC World Cup, but India will hope they can upset the Betting Odds and win the title for the second time.
