ICC Champions Trophy 2009

The ICC Champions Trophy 2009 is a 2nd biggest cricket tournament scheduled to take place in South Africa in September-October 2009. It will be the sixth mini world cricket series. The ICC Champions Trophy 2009 will be contested by 8 Test teams which have been 'seeded' and divided into two groups are A and B.

Group A - India, Pakistan, West Indies and Australia
Group B - South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and England

ICC Champions Trophy 2009, South Africa – Mini World Cup 2009 – 6th Cricket Champions Trophy Schedule. South Africa will be the host for ICC Champions Trophy 2009 and the event is scheduled to be held in the months of September and October.

The 8-team, 12-day tournament in South Africa had been a recommendation after Pakistan and Sri Lanka were ruled out for obvious security and bad weather reasons.

The New Wanderers Stadium as well as the Centurion Park in Johannesburg and Pretoria will be the venues for the ICC Champions Trophy matches, and undoubtedly the world class venues for making the event more spectacular and the weather is predicted to be stable as well as ideal for world cricket.

ICC President David Morgan offered thanks to CSA for expressing its willingness to host the event in short time notice.

Cricket South Africa is in news recently for staging global cricketing events, including the 2003 World Cup as well as the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, IPL Twenty20 2009.

ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled from September 24, 2009 to October 5, 2009.
